Detail Report on Health & Hygiene Workshops conducted in 10 Union Councils of Swabi District NWFP


 

 

During the baseline survey conducted in IDPs of Malakand Division that shows the need of the health & hygiene in the IDPs as well as host communities. During the survey AHD staff comes to now that women and children facing water borne diseases in camps, spontaneous camps and host communities.

 

AHD team conducted 10 awareness workshops in 10 Union Councils of Swabi district is to promote awareness on health & hygiene in women and children and to minimize their health related problems. The safe and clean drinking water measures also discussed with the women during sessions and majority of the participant’s shows their interested to learn more about the safe drinking Nadi filter units.

Swabi is the district headquarter of northern province (NWFP ) of  Pakistan  where the IDPs second large nos. arrived from Bunir & Swat and due to large influx of the IDPs the extra burden crates lot of problems for the host communities as well as they suffered with the unsafe drinking water and the poor health. During the baseline survey conducted by AHD staff during 27th June 2009 to 9th July 2009 in 10 Union Councils of Swabi district finds that the women and children health is vulnerable and needs to be addresses through the health awareness sessions and workshops. In this regard AHD proposed activity in 10 Union Councils and project approved from the Misereor Germany to conduct the health & hygiene awareness workshops in the selected union councils. AHD staff including two female staff successfully conducted the trainings in 10 CBOs existing in the targeted union councils of Swabi district NWFP.

The details of the health & hygiene workshops conducted in 10 union councils of the Swabi area and the IDPs as well as host communities to minimize the hygienic problems in women and children and about 320 women from the poor families attended the workshops and get aware about the common health diseases as well as water borne diseases to benefit more than 2,560 households.

3- Workshop components & Responsibilities:

To make the workshop effective it was divided in to 2 part.

1        Introductory session ( AHD & participant )

2        Input session

 

Introductory session

Program started with the recitation from Holy Quran. Miss Mariam gave a brief introduction of AHD institutatioal & organisational sustainability & its working radius with the help of local female social mobilizer after these participants were requested to introduce themselves by name & area to make them familiar with each other& to involve them in the activities.

 

Input session

During this session they were given know how about the common disease like

  1. Gastro 2. Diheria 3. Dysentery 4. Hepatitis 5. Typhoid 6. Skin disease (water born & cleanliness) 7. Worm diseases

 Health & Hygiene should be controlled through the practise of daily hand washing cocking, eating, feeding & cleaning if we don’t use these proper precautionary like.

       a)      Washing of hands before & after eating with soap or hand wash

b)      Washing of hands before cocking with soap or hand wash

c)      Washing of hands before feeding the children with soap or hand wash

d)      Washing of hands after practicing toilet activities with soap or hand wash

e)      Washing of hand after cleaning the toilet with soap or hand wash

f)        Washing of hand after feeding & cleaning the dung of livestock

g)      Washing the hand of the children after their play or other activity

h)      Proper cleaning of cocking & eating utensils

i)        Proper cleaning of kitchen

j)        Post cocking activities like covering of food& water

k)      Boiling of water used for coking & drinking

l)        Proper distance between the kitchen & toilet

m)    Proper distance between toilet & water pump
